![]() Before working as an online content editor, he was a music journalist and one of the first to interview Arcade Fire before its big break. Olivier Lalande is no stranger to the Montréal music scene. This time around, the question lingered: How and why did this happen? In Québec, 'we glorify them.' But since the allegations came to light, Arcade Fire has become a synonym for something darker, something even the people evolving around them couldn't see coming. Everybody who lives in the city has a story about the band. Jetté's story could be the story of many other people living in Montréal. He represented something more than just a beloved hometown artist - he's an international star who helped earn the Montréal scene a global reputation. Butler is a star who both enabled and troubled the growth of a scene that has been recognized globally for its creative talent. ![]() However, this situation felt especially dire. This wasn't the first time someone from the Canadian music scene had been accused of sexual harassment and probably wouldn't be the last. While many outlets reported the news right away and had extensive coverage in the days following, the reaction in Canada seemed delayed. In November, a fifth woman came forward to allege an " ongoing abusive relationship." I'm sorry I wasn't more aware and tuned in to the effect I have on people - I f***** up, and while not an excuse, I will continue to look forward and heal what can be healed, and learn from past experiences." "As I look to the future, I am continuing to learn from my mistakes and working hard to become a better person, someone my son can be proud of. "While these relationships were all consensual, I am very sorry to anyone who I have hurt with my behavior," Butler wrote. In a response, communicated through New York-based crisis public relations expert Risa Heller, Butler acknowledged the sexual interactions, but claimed they were consensual: To quote Pitchfork's shocking investigative piece, three women alleged "sexual interactions with Butler that they came to feel were inappropriate given the gaps in age, power dynamics, and context in which they occurred." The story also alleged that Butler sexually assaulted a fourth person, who is gender-fluid, "twice in 2015, when they were 21 and he was 34." For the last two decades, Arcade Fire has been the most visible export of that scene.īut since the end of August, the Montréal music scene has had to reckon with sexual abuse allegations against Butler. Living in a city that prides itself on its cultural scene and mostly its music, whether it is produced in French or English. A city where people come to find themselves through cold winters and hot summers, through language barriers that are erased in gatherings. Led by Win Butler, an American who grew up in Texas, and Régine Chassagne, a Francophone Québécoise with Haitian roots, the band symbolizes the reality for many Montréalais and Montréalaises: Living in a city that mixes French and English in every aspect of its being. Since forming in 2001, Arcade Fire had been one of the brightest gems in Montréal's musical crown. but they were so highly respected and loved!" "We were all there, in front of them, glorifying them. "Being at their show at the time had the same energy as being at church in front of a priest," Jetté says. As a young student at Université de Sherbrooke, she had gone to three shows, back-to-back, before the release of The Suburbs, the band's Grammy-winning record. The band that made her a music journalist. More than just one of her favorite bands, Arcade Fire defined her career. The freelance music journalist had always been a fan of Arcade Fire. Top Tools For Your Marketing Technology Stack Ideally, your martech stack should include a good mix of marketing essentials – all of which serve a critical purpose within your business. Start thinking about which tools you need to reach your goals and why, what kind of budget you have for doing so, and who will be involved in managing these technologies. Creating your own Marketing Technology Stackīefore you jump right in and start researching tools (which trust me, can be a very time consuming task), it’s important to do your homework first. They are here to stay, meaning if you haven’t yet hopped on board, now is the time. So what can we conclude from these figures you ask? Marketing Technology Stacks aren’t going anywhere. Not to mention marketing software spending is set to reach $32 billion by the end of this year. On top of that, studies carried out by Gartner show that 50 – 65% of marketing execs plan on spending more on marketing technology in the next year. ![]() In fact, martech vendors are sprouting up just about everywhere, each time with newer and more innovative solutions.ĭon’t believe me? Just take a look at the difference between ChiefMartech’s first edition of the Marketing Tech Landscape in 2011 (with roughly 150 vendors) to this year’s edition (with nearly 7,000 vendors)! The transformation is colossal. There’s no denying that the Marketing Technology (‘Martech’) space is flourishing. Why invest in a Marketing Technology Stack? Businesses are now much more keen on mixing and matching different tools to create their own, personalised marketing technology stacks. That being said, there is no ‘one size fits all’ anymore when it comes to employing marketing technologies. This could be for several reasons: a bigger budget and thus the opportunity to invest in a wider range of tools, the involvement of several departments, a larger customer base to serve and more websites & mobile apps to maintain. Marketing technology stacks often vary from business to business depending on both the size of the business and their priorities.įor example, the marketing technology stack of an enterprise business is usually much more intricate than that of a startup or SMB. What is a Marketing Technology Stack?Ī Marketing Technology Stack is essentially a cluster of technology-based tools that digital marketers use to efficiently perform marketing activities, across various channels. So what is a marketing technology stack? Why do I need one? And which tools do I need to complete mine? Let’s take a look. This is essentially where having a marketing technology stack becomes fundamental to your success as an online company. In fact, it’s almost impossible nowadays for digital marketers to perform their tasks without the right tools at their side tools that automate and simplify processes ensuring they get a good return on their marketing investment. Today’s marketing environment is undeniably a busy one. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Have you always been complimented on your voice? Try being a radio announcer and share it with everyone in your area. The most recent example was that a small canvas print she hung up fell off of the wall (the hook gave out), and she insisted that someone had pulled it off! She replaced it with a note that said “Do NOT remove from wall!” with multiple underlines. My co-worker, whom I share a printer with, is convinced that anytime something happens in her office, another of our co-workers intentionally did it and needs to be informed not to do so via note. I was very glad I hadn’t signed it because it looked totally crazed. Obviously she didn’t think I had reflected the Epic Seriousness of the problem. I did, and then came back to find it reworked with the same wording, but much, MUCH bigger font size, CAPITAL LETTERS, underlining, and many exclamation points. I once had a staff member ask me to post a reminder to check that you weren’t taking someone else’s printing with your own. So there are some dueling notes about “PLEASE don’t leave your dishes sitting on the counter-everyone has to use it!” versus “But if you DO see dishes on the counter, please leave them alone and don’t hide them in random places!” The array of notes truly is a sight to behold. Our break room counter area is large and has tons of space-but some people apparently get really irked if you just leave your containers sitting on the counter after washing them, to the extent of taking/hiding containers they see sitting out. The gist of the majority of them is “Wash your dishes, you animal” or “Clean the sink when you’re done washing dishes, you animal,” with one “Don’t dump your coffee grounds down the sink, you animal.” Where it gets interesting is the fate of the cleaned dishes/containers. But we have at least six or seven notes taped up behind the break room sink right now, some of which disagree with one another, a few of which go on for paragraphs. I’m not sure, but it feels like a minion years ago.Man, there is wartime going on in my office concerning dishes/sink/break room etiquette.
